This past weekend we were blessed to spend a few days in New York City with our dear friends Kim and Kurt. Both couples made the tough choice to leave our young ones with their grandparents, and take a small vacation together. (Although from what we hear both the kids and their grandparents had a blast.) We stayed in the awesome Cosmopolitan Hotel in Tribeca. (Cool fact that I learned: Tribeca stands for Triangle Below Canal Street.) Despite the cold, we kept ourselves busy by filling our days with all sorts of stuff: lots of walking, some shopping, visiting landmarks, some delicious meals, and generally enjoying each others' company. I'll take a few posts to share some of our pictures. The first two here are from our first meal, at the famous Lombardi's pizza, "America's first pizzeria."
The next morning we headed to Rockefeller Center. We were briefly "those" people who stood in the background during the Today Show.
A look at the skating rink. I was convinced that we would see Liz Lemon or Kenneth the Page (a la 30 Rock) running around.
And in front of the NBC Studios. We took a tour of the studios that morning, which included seeing the MSNBC newsroom, Brian Williams' desk for the NBC Nightly News, and the Saturday Night Live studios. While we visited the SNL studios, we saw Michael Buble rehearsing for the week's show. He waved to the tour and sang to us; our guide said it's very rare to catch them rehearsing like that.
Towers of M&Ms from the M&Ms store!
In Times Square! The 2010 ball is still up there - does it stay here all year?
That night we visited the Comic Strip Live, a famous comedy club that's seen pretty much every famous stand-up at one point or another in their careers. If you've seen an episode of Seinfeld, when he does little stand-up bits in front of a brick wall - that's the Comic Strip Live.
