El Arepazo

One of our favorite restaurants in Columbus is a little Venezuelan/Latino place downtown that is nothing more than a hole in the wall on the outside. But it houses some of the most delicious food we've had in a long time!

Will loves it too - his favorite things being avocados, plantains and pulled pork. I think next time, we might need to order his own meal! Of course, a lot of it ended up on his face! :)

Next time you're in Columbus, we're definitely taking you there!

Baby steps!

Our little man is taking his next steps! He's always been bold, but just a couple days ago he started stepping out from the couch or coffee table. He's taken three steps at the most, but he seems pretty proud of himself. Here are a few highlights of him launching into our arms.

Weekend in Greenville

We went to Greenville this past weekend to celebrate Marina's bridal shower! But, first, a few pics of the most adorable baby in the universe. (I might be a tad biased.)

We had the shower at my parent's house, and 55 or so women were able to come! The Meyer family is getting pretty good at parties, weddings, showers, you name it, and this one was beach-themed!

The bride and bridesmaids (left to right, Irina, Marina, Anna, Mindy).

Papa was getting some good snuggles with Will this weekend, and got to hang out with him during the party - of course, the ladies were lovin' on Will as well!

Will's First Haircut

After many well-meaning comments about Will's baby mullet, we decided to get his hair cut.

And, of course, we went to "Cookie Cutters," a salon just for kids, and got the "First Haircut package." I figure, I'll get all that stuff out of the way for my first kid... :)

It was really fun, and I only cried a little bit. Will was just a champ, and loved that he got to sit in an airplane! I sorta wish I got to sit in one when I get my hair cut!

Almost done!

There is our little man!

Taking a Trip!

Here are a few pics of Will on this past weekend's trip to Greenville, PA, for my sister, Marina's Bridal Shower!

Will loves books. He loves paging through them, being read to, and holding them. He also loves trying out his 5 little teeth by chewing on them. There have been many times when he is particularly quiet holding a book and we will find him with a mouthful of pulp. Delicious.

Here he is outside of the Corral. For those of you who don't know about the Corral, you're missing out. Best soft serve, fries, burgers, and coffee stirs in the midwest. You'll notice his hairs are a bit shorter than the last few posts! First hair cut last week! More pics of the weekend to come!

Will's first trip to the zoo

This past weekend we took Will for his first trip to the awesome Columbus Zoo, (the Number 1 zoo in the country!). We ended up buying a year's membership, which was such a good deal. Overall, he seemed to understand what was going on; he kept pointing at the animals and babbling at them.

He's pretty fearless, at least right now, and didn't seem to be too startled by the animals. Not even when the giant Silverback Gorilla charged the glass right where he and his Aunt Katie were standing!

Animals are just pretty hilarious, too, which made it a good day for all of us!

Will kept trying to wake up this sleeping gorilla. She didn't want to have much to do with him.

He really liked the Oceans part of the zoo, and seemed particularly amused by the penguins, which were showing off for the crowds.

And we touched some star fish in the tidal pools, getting Will ready for the beach! Only one month away!

And, of course, our little ham never lets a photo op go by! He liked the big bronze sculptures all over the park, this big sting ray being his favorite. He'll see some real ones in just a few weeks!

I don't think we have any snake-fears on our hands with this one!

Will's favorite, by far, were the bears. I think it was because they were big and playful (they were two young brothers in one cage). It might also be because we read him "Brown bear, brown bear, what do you see?" and they looked JUST like the pictures in the book. Thanks, Eric Carle!

I'm so glad we can go back there as many times as we want, and bring people with! I'm sure Will is going to enjoy getting to know the animals this year.

Laughter!

Here's Will having a few laughs at dinner. I was drumming on the table (that's the noise you hear), and he just apparently thought it was hiliarous. He's living up to his middle name, which means "son of laughter!"

Flowering Fountain

Many of you may remember that about this time last year, I was in the throes of pregnancy hormones, nesting, and seeing my house in the Spring for the first time. We had lived in it for about a year, and had been very used to the two boxy hedges in front of the house. However, when all the beautiful neighborhood trees and bushes had begun to flower I was particuarily drawn to some white ones I saw all over the place, fountaining in tiny little dainty flowers from a million points on the bush. Taking a closer look at the sad razor-clipped bushes in the front of my house, I discovered, to my abject delight and horror, that the two hedges were actually a stunningly beautiful bush called Bridal Veil Spirea, and that chopping them neatly actually STUNTED THEIR FLOWERING. Let's just say, they didn't see another clipping for one long year.

Nick thought I was crazy, but I don't have to say that it was well worth it! These bushes are beautiful and giant and flowering like CRAZY and I am loving every moment of it!!! It was DEFINITELY worth the wait!

If you'd like to come by and see them yourselves, let me know - I'll most likely be on the porch staring at them as well! I'll make you some lemonade!
