Dancing!

Will clearly enjoys music: listening to it, playing with Daddy's drums, watching the band at church. Every aspect. And clearly he finds it moving... to the point of dancing.

We caught these two videos today of Will dancing. Check out his special move, where he just lunges really low. Not sure where this came from, but it's hilarious!

Snowy weekend!

Last weekend was a snowy one for Columbus, so we hunkered down at home. Saturday morning we made pumpkin pancakes. We're trying to include Will more in the kitchen. Here he is beating some eggs - just after this picture, he tried to lick the whisk. Definitely a lesson there.

Later, of course, we went outside to shovel and play in the snow. Will got a kick out of throwing snow balls to Maeby. And he helped Daddy with some sweeping...

...sort of.

We made a snowman, too. Will gave it a kiss.

Sometimes you just need a good snow day or two!

New York City Pics: Part 3

Continuing our New York City travelogue... We began Saturday with some breakfast (of course!) at the amazing Chelsea Market. It's a converted warehouse with all sorts of shops, restaurants, coffee houses, and more. We headed there looking for Sarabeth's Bakery, and were pleasantly surprised to find the entire market.

More cupcakes! New York is a cupcake city, I tell you.

After spending some time in the market, we ventured outside to the High Line, an unused elevated train line that was converted into a community park last year.

It's really an amazing project and a perfect example of urban reclamation. The train line is now full of plants, benches, walkways, performance areas, and more - all of which offers some amazing views of Chelsea and the Hudson River, because it's above street level.

A stop at the Purl fabric shops in Soho. Fabric...

...and yarn!

And then we had one of our craziest meals of the trip: dim sum at Jing Fong. Several people suggested trying dim sum in Chinatown, with Jing Fong as one of the top recommendations. We had no idea what we were in for, but we found the restaurant, took an escalator upstairs, and suddenly found ourselves in a massive (and full!) dining room. Before we were even seated, a series of women pushing carts jammed with food surrounded us. They plied us with all sorts of specialties. Eventually we just started choosing some, and found ourselves enjoying a delicious meal.

We don't know everything we ate that meal (though we did decline the fried chicken feet), but it was all delicious. But we can't convey the rush and noise of the experience. If you're in New York, try it yourself!

A look at Chinatown.

Grand Central Station.

On our final day, Sunday, we had breakfast at City Bakery, who makes an amazing crack-laced hot chocolate with homemade marshmallows.

City Bakery is known for their pretzel croissants. Oh yeah.

We concluded the trip with a short walk into Central Park, then had to part ways, to get home to our kiddos. We're looking forward to our next trip with Kim, Kurt, and Maddie already!

New York City Pics: Part 2

The second day of our trip started with breakfast at the awesome Kitchenette in our neighborhood (see Nick's blog for a review soon), then we walked down to the World Trade Center site. We stopped in St. Paul's Chapel, one of the few buildings left standing nearby after the towers fell. The church became a haven for rescue workers in the days following September 11th. We also stopped in the temporary museum dedicated to the World Trade Center and what life was like in them before they fell. It was a sobering visit, but definitely worthwhile. And the picture above shows the new construction on the site; the Freedom Tower just rose above street level - it's the red steel towards the back.

Beth and I then visited the Museum of Modern Art. Definitely worth a visit - there's a lot of famous artwork hanging there - but the layout seemed a little strange and confusing in some parts.

I call this piece Balding Man Looking at Starry Night.

Long rows of toys at FAO Schwartz.

Kurt by a Lego Chewbacca.

The Big piano!

Plus a stop at the massive Apple store near Central Park. It was absolutely packed!

And here were are at the famous Katz's Deli.

We finished off the night with a reuben sandwich and knishes.

New York City Pics: Part 1

This past weekend we were blessed to spend a few days in New York City with our dear friends Kim and Kurt. Both couples made the tough choice to leave our young ones with their grandparents, and take a small vacation together. (Although from what we hear both the kids and their grandparents had a blast.) We stayed in the awesome Cosmopolitan Hotel in Tribeca. (Cool fact that I learned: Tribeca stands for Triangle Below Canal Street.) Despite the cold, we kept ourselves busy by filling our days with all sorts of stuff: lots of walking, some shopping, visiting landmarks, some delicious meals, and generally enjoying each others' company. I'll take a few posts to share some of our pictures. The first two here are from our first meal, at the famous Lombardi's pizza, "America's first pizzeria."

The next morning we headed to Rockefeller Center. We were briefly "those" people who stood in the background during the Today Show.

A look at the skating rink. I was convinced that we would see Liz Lemon or Kenneth the Page (a la 30 Rock) running around.

And in front of the NBC Studios. We took a tour of the studios that morning, which included seeing the MSNBC newsroom, Brian Williams' desk for the NBC Nightly News, and the Saturday Night Live studios. While we visited the SNL studios, we saw Michael Buble rehearsing for the week's show. He waved to the tour and sang to us; our guide said it's very rare to catch them rehearsing like that.

Towers of M&Ms from the M&Ms store!

In Times Square! The 2010 ball is still up there - does it stay here all year?

That night we visited the Comic Strip Live, a famous comedy club that's seen pretty much every famous stand-up at one point or another in their careers. If you've seen an episode of Seinfeld, when he does little stand-up bits in front of a brick wall - that's the Comic Strip Live.

Will's new dance!

Check out Will and some of his latest dance moves. We're not sure where exactly they came from, but they're pretty funny.
